How does the comparison work?
You paste one draft and CharLimits measures it against the primary field of every platform it covers. Each platform is counted with its own rules, so X charges 23 characters per link, Bluesky counts grapheme clusters and SMS detects its encoding automatically.
Why does the same text pass on one platform and fail on another?
Limits differ by an order of magnitude. A 400 character post fits Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon, is over the limit for X, and is nowhere near the ceiling on LinkedIn or Facebook. Counting rules differ too, so the same characters produce different totals on different platforms.
Which field does the comparison check?
Each platform is checked against its main publishing field: the post or caption limit. Fields like bios, display names and ad headlines have their own separate limits, which you can check on the individual platform page.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste is transmitted, stored or logged.
